In May 2014 a friend recommended Alan as a personal trainer at his gym Revolution Fitness. Two bouts of pneumonia in the previous 12 months had left me very weak and out of shape. I was about to turn 60 and was 2 years from retirement. I decided I did not want to limp my way through the rest of my life - I needed to do something different. At that time I weighed 194 at 5'3". My weight had gotten up to 219 lb a couple of years earlier. Although Alan was extremely warm, calm, welcoming and non judgmental - I dreaded every one of those sessions. I was extremely self conscious about my appearance and the shape I was in. I told myself I would be honest with Alan and I would take his advice. Best decisions I have made in a long time. I lost about 40 pounds and have learned what it takes to maintain a healthy diet. Eating healthy does not seem to come naturally for me but by following the guidelines that Alan has taught me, I am able to balance my diet. In October 2017 I entered a weightlifting competition. It was really a challenge to train specifically for that event. Alan worked out a program for me and we trained hard. I have never exerted myself physically as much as I have over this last year and I have never felt as strong and fit as I do now at the age of 63. Every single day that I have worked out at Rev Fit I have felt better when leaving than when I arrived. I sleep better. My anxiety and occasional depression have been greatly reduced. Once I got past my self consciousness , I started talking to other people at the gym. These people have become my friends. We support and encourage each other. I have worked very hard to improve my fitness and health. I could not have done it without the guidance and encouragement of Alan. He convinced me that everything we were doing was going to work for me, I did not believe him at first. But I acted like I did. Now I am a True Believer. |
